What is Dedicated Hosting?

When we speak of hosting servers, there are 3 basic categories - shared hosting web servers, VPS (virtual web servers) and dedicated servers. Shared web servers host lots of customers and thus the system resources per account are limited, VPS plans give you more configuration liberty, but also influence other private virtual hosting servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers give you the liberty to carry out everything you choose without interfering with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated server?

Dedicated servers are typically much more expensive than shared servers or private virtual hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The answer is quite simple. If your corporation has a heavy resource-absorbing site, or simply has very specific server architecture requirements, the most logical option is a dedicated server. For someone who is willing to invest in security and reliability, the higher price is not an issue. You receive full root access and can use 100% of the hosting server's system resources without anyone else availing of these resources and messing with your websites.

Hardware specs

The majority of hosting distributors, including us at , offer several hardware configurations you can select from in accordance with your demands. The hardware configurations include different varieties of processors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and server hard disk drive sizes and different monthly traffic allowances. You can pick a web hosting CP, which is a convenient GUI if you want to use the web server for website hosting purposes only and prefer not to resort to an SSH console for all the modifications you will be making. We offer 3 kinds of hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting CP of your choosing

If you are a self-assured Linux user (our dedicated servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated server via an SSH connection exclusively. That, though, could be inconvenient, especially if you wish to give complete root-level access to someone else who has less technical experience than yourself. This is why having web hosting Control Panel software installed is a brilliant idea. The Hepsia web hosting Control Panel tool that we provide does not offer full root privileges and is mostly appropriate for someone who owns numerous web portals that require lots of resources, but would rather administer the websites, databases and email mailboxes via an easy-to-use Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full server root access and offer 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting packages instead of utilizing the server only for yourself, you should choose one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In case of a predicament with your dedicated web hosting server, like a non-responsive Apache or a downtime, it is good to have some sort of monitoring system activated. Here at the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated server too. Backups are also an extra feature - the hosting vendor offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would allow you to store the very same data on 2 hard drives as a protective measure in case of a server hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given complete server root access deletes something accidentally.
